Surpanakha jibe: Nandi apologises

ALLAHABAD: Even as the Election Commission (EC) issued a display purpose notice to UP cabinet minister Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’ on Wednesday for his recent statement towards BSP leader Mayawati, the minister tendered a written apology saying “his intent was once to not hurt or insult any individual”.

“I got here to know that sentiments of a few other people had been hurt because of my speech on the public rally at Durga Puja Park in Preetamnagar. I wish to explain that my goal was once to not hurt or insult any individual and I was only studying a WhatsApp message sent to me with ‘Bura na mano holi hai’ (Don’t really feel indignant, it’s Holi) as caption,” Nandi said in the apology letter.



During an election rally in Phulpur on March four, Nandi allegedly equated BSP leader Mayawati with Ramayan persona Surpanakha.CM Yogi Adityanath and deputy CM Keshav Maurya was once provide on the rally.


District election officer and district magistrate Suhas LY said on Wednesday, “A display purpose notice has been issued to cabinet minister Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’ and he has been asked to reply on the earliest. Besides, the EC also sought an in depth document at the factor which we've got sent.”
