Pre-arrest bail: Gujarat high court notice to Teesta

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat top court docket on Wednesday issued a fresh notice to social activist Teesta Setalvad in accordance with an application filed by way of the state executive in 2011 difficult cancellation of anticipatory bail granted to her in reference to an alleged offence of preparation of false affidavits on behalf of the 2002 riots victims and filing them before the Supreme Court.

Justice J B Pardiwala has sought Setalvad’s reply by way of April 4, when additional hearing at the issue is posted.


The state executive had additionally sought instructions from the HC to Setalvad to surrender herself to judicial custody. The executive moved against the relief granted to her by way of a classes court docket after the HC showed a magisterial court docket’s order to record an FIR on preparation of false affidavits.


In 2011, the HC needed to prevent hearing at the state executive’s application after the SC stayed the order for registration of an FIR within the case. Setalvad’s NGO, Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) had challenged the HC’s confirmation of green signal to probe. However, in December 2017, the CJP withdrew the appeal from the apex court docket. This cleared the path for the state executive to begin prosecuting the applying before the HC.


Setalvad had bought anticipatory bail fearing arrest after police was to research the position of Setalvad’s former aide, Rais Khan and his pals. After he surrender the CJP, Khan has been occupied with attesting against her former employer.
