Coimbatore: Sending out a powerful message to those failing to abide by way of tax laws, the Income Tax (I-T) Department has this yr initiated legal prosecution in 21 cases of non-compliance.

“The primary offence is non-filing of tax returns by way of those that are liable to take action. Other offences include tax evasion and failure to make tax bills,” mentioned the I-T division, including that extra such cases have been beneath the method of submitting. Of the cases filed in February, 13 cases are from Coimbatore, Tirupur and Erode districts.


Till date, about 82,899 new taxpayers have filed their returns and the number is expected to go a lakh, a press commentary from the I-T division mentioned. The returns for the monetary years 2015-16 and 2016-17 may still be filed on or ahead of March 31. The I-T division has additionally advised the defaulters to use the opportunity and report the returns.
