KAKINADA/HYDERABAD: Two persons with Maoist leanings were arrested on Friday evening by means of East Godavari Police at the charge of hatching a plot to assassinate the vice-chancellor of University of Hyderabad (UoH), Appa Rao Podile. Police claimed the duo was acting on orders of Maoist brass of Telangana to avenge the demise of Dalit analysis pupil Rohit Vemula, who dedicated suicide at the campus two years ago.
Producing them before media on Saturday, East Godavari SP Vishal Gunni identified them as legislation scholar Ankala Prudviraj, 27, from Gannavaram in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh and Chandan Kumar Mishra, 28, from Howrah in West Bengal.
The two were scholars of UoH when Vemula dedicated suicide in January 2016, and have sturdy Maoists links. They hang vice-chancellor Appa Rao chargeable for Vemula’s demise, police stated.
