CHENNAI: Commuters can now grab some espresso and snacks as they watch for their train at Thiruvanmiyur MRTS station. Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC) on Friday launched a meals plaza, comprising five retail outlets covering 835sqft, for the first time at the Thiruvanmiyur station.
The meals plaza, inaugurated via IRCTC and railway officers, is situated on platform number 2, from the place commuters headed to Beach station board trains. Velachery MRTS station can even get a meals plaza soon, say IRCTC resources. The plaza at Thiruvanmiyur has a espresso stall, bakery and a stall promoting packaged meals. Two more meals stalls, including a restaurant, will be opened in the plaza in a few days.
Sankar N, manager of the espresso stall mentioned, “We have received around 300 customers from morning. It is a superb reaction and we expect more other people in the coming days.”
“Being a frequent commuter I welcome this initiative. After place of work we in most cases rush for our train, so we don’t have time to devour. But now, I can grab a bite whilst I wait,” mentioned Rupa Nadhan, a commuter.
Thiruvanmiyur is one of the busiest stations on the Beach-Velachery line. “The tenders are awarded to these with some experience in railways. Food plazas are anticipated to open in 10 MRTS stations in a month,” mentioned Sunil Dath M M, license holder of Thiruvanmiyur meals outlet.
