CHENNAI: A 25-year-old guy from Tirupati ended up in jail here on Sunday after the town police arrested him in a lodge in Vadapalani the previous night for making an attempt to sell his 10-month-old daughter to a childless Chennai couple for Rs 1.5 lakh.
A workforce of cops, performing on a tip, compelled their approach into a room within the lodge at nine.30pm on Saturday or even as Manoj, a salesperson in a mobile phone accessory store, used to be looking forward to the couple to conclude the transaction.
They detained a 2d individual, Mahesh, 27, also from Andhra Pradesh, for helping to broker the deal, an investigating officer mentioned.
“Manoj and his wife Kavitha, 19, have been in dire straits for a while,” the officer mentioned. “They did not also have the money to raise their older kid, a boy of two and a part, and had given him to Kavitha’s mom to appear after.”
“Manoj met Mahesh on a talk over with to Puducherry two years in the past they usually stayed in touch,” he mentioned. “He went to Puducherry again 3 months in the past, this time, with Kavitha. They stayed in a room with Mahesh, who had moved there quickly searched for a greater process. Manoj then proposed the theory of selling the kid due to his monetary issues.”
Mahesh took the theory ahead and contacted people he knew, asking them to look if they may discover a childless couple inquisitive about acquiring a baby with none documentation — people who would no longer ask too many questions about the legality of the transaction, the officer mentioned.
Kavitha did not know anything in regards to the deal until she arrived in Vadapalani together with her husband, he mentioned.
“Mahesh’s acquaintances discovered a childless couple who offered to pay Rs 1.5 lakh for the kid,” the officer mentioned. “Mahesh arranged for the change to happen within the lodge on Saturday when we made the arrests.
Investigators on Sunday morning produced Manoj and Mahesh prior to a magistrate, who remanded them in jail. They will soon surrender the mum and kid, now within the govt home for women and girls in Kellys, to a kid welfare committee.
“We are wondering both males to spot the people who had been prepared to pay for the infant,” the officer mentioned. “It may well be members of an organ buying and selling cartel.”
