In 2017, a complete of Rs 1,030 crore used to be paid to airways as airfare for 1,24,852 Haj pilgrims. In 2018, Rs 973 crore shall be paid to the airways for the 1,28,702 Haj pilgrims going throughout the Haj Committee of India, he stated.
"It means, apart from ending the Haj subsidy, we have saved Rs 57 crore on airfare," he stated.
For the welfare of Haj pilgrims, two 40-bed hospitals in Mecca, one hospital of 15 beds in Medina, 10 department dispensaries in Mecca, 3 dispensaries in Medina and one dispensary within the Jeddah Haj Terminal had been set up, he stated.
The Haj process has been made completely digital which has helped in making it "transparent and pro-pilgrim", the minister stated.
