COIMBATORE: Police on Monday resorted to cane price to disperse two warring groups belonging to AIADMK and DMK which had come to report nomination papers for a Housing Cooperative society in close by Tirupur.
Trouble started when police reportedly closed the doorways after AIADMK males led by former minister MSM Anandan entered the hall, while former DMK Mayor Selvaraj and his supporters weren't allowed, police sources said.
As a controversy broke out over this, some DMK males have been seen barging into the hall where nominations should be filed, which was prevented by AIADMK males.
This ended in a melee forcing police to hotel to "mild" cane price and likewise pushing some staff out, they said.
Returning officer Shoba postponed the date of submitting nominations following the violence, police said.
A few DMK males have been harm in the melee and have been admitted to medical institution with minor accidents, they added.
