BENGALURU: Vijay Kumar, a 37-year-old priest of the Sri Revanna Siddeshwara Swamy temple in Avverahalli close to Ramanagara town sustained severe burn accidents after he slipped and fell at the red-hot embers whilst performing the firewalking ritual during temple festivities on Sunday. Manjunath, Vijay’s brother, also sustained burn accidents when he went his sibling’s rescue.
Police registered a case, probe is underway
The incident passed off at around 6.30am on Sunday, the second one day of three-day festivities planned by means of the temple’s believe. The ‘agnikonda’, the strip of burning embers, had been prepared and Kumar, maintaining a sword, started strolling on it. He had coated about part the duration of the 15-foot long ‘agnikonda’ when he slipped and fell.

“The duo was once instantly taken to a non-public health facility in Ramanagara town and later shifted to St John’s Medical College Hospital in Bengaluru town for treatment,” an office bearer of the Sri Revanasiddeshwara Swamy Kshetra Abhivrudhi Seva Trust, Avverahalli mentioned. “Manjunath suffered burn accidents to his toes, whilst his brother Kumar suffered accidents to his chest, legs and hands. Both are out of threat.”
Ramanagara Rural police have registered a case and a probe is underway. Police mentioned that is the third such incident in a span of 2 months. Ravi Poojari, a 35-year-old priest, was once injured during the firewalking ritual as a part of Maramma Devi fest in Uyyamballi village on April 11 at Uyyamballi village close to Kanakapura. He succumbed to his accidents on April 15.
Another priest was once injured during the ritual in Maramma Devi Temple at Satanur, a month in the past. He is claimed to have recovered from his accidents.
