TALAKADU (Mysuru): Spires of the temple towers rising over dunes of sand dotting the landscape, with the river gurgling on its passage to the ocean not too some distance, Talakadu is definitely and really a miracle of nature. A spot famed in fable and legend, the sandy banks of Talakadu have remained an endless source of fascination amongst nature enthusiasts and basic public alike. Home to just about 40 temples, lots of which might be submerged within the sand, Talakadu attracts tourists in large numbers, mostly from Bengaluru and Kerala. Improved street connectivity means that Talakadu attracts tourists within the loads every day. Located 49km from Mysuru city, a coracle ride on the waters of the River Cauvery is among the main points of interest in Talakadu. However, tourists bemoan the loss of adequate facilities at the vacationer hotspot similar to bathrooms and dustbins. “The drawback begins right at the entry gate. Waste together with plastic wrappers in littered on either side of the street. There is not a single dustbin within the area. So, everyone throws waste on the street. A few dustbins are placed on the banks of the Cauvery,” said Rajalakshmi Rao, a vacationer from Bengaluru.
Rajalakshmi used to be similarly unsparing when it got here to the behaviour of tourists as well, whom she accused of failing to make use of the few dustbins that were placed. “It is unwise to allow eateries to be arrange in such places, since it mars the serene good looks. The areas set aside for water sports activities and coracle rides also are very dirty,” she added.

One of the oarsmen who plies the coracle along the river instructed TOI, “If any person stays within the river for greater than 10 minutes, she or he will develop a skin allergy. This is since the water is not flowing right here, and has become polluted consequently. Complaints of itching are common amongst tourists.”
The other pet peeve of the visitors is the loss of separate rooms for changing their costumes, which they said resulted in many difficulties.
However, Talakadu gram panchayat vice-president TC Kumar Naik said, “There is no truth in those allegations. There are changing rooms available for tourists.”
