Unable to contact Gsat-6A since Saturday, confirms Isro

BENGALURU: For virtually two days now, the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) has been not able to keep up a correspondence with Gsat-6A, a mega communique satellite, indicating that possibilities of re-establishing contact with it are slender.

While the agency is but to resolve the reason for the failure, scientists said an influence system malfunction rendered the satellite incommunicado.

TOI was once the first to record about Isro going silent on Gsat-6A updates and the highest Isro staff keeping an emergency assembly on the undertaking on Saturday. Isro misplaced contact with the satellite around 11am on Saturday, inside 48 hours of the release. Before that, the Master Control Facility in Hassan had despatched instructions for two orbitraising operations. They have been a hit. Four minutes after the second one manoeuvre, the bottom station had misplaced contact with the satellite as without energy it could neither ship nor obtain indicators.

Isro’s Space Applications Centre leader Tapan Misra said professionals have been analyzing the ‘information’ and dealing to obtain indicators from Gsat-6A. “That aside, the time taken for one revolution of the satellite around the Earth must be thought to be when operating on a solution... It will take a while. There cannot be an immediate resolution,” he said. Satellites in geostationary orbit at an altitude of about 36,000km take 24 hours to circle the Earth.
