TIRUPUR: The town police on Thursday arrested a 23-year-old guy for sharing a morphed image on his Facebook web page that demeaned Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The accused has been identified as M Prabhakaran of Valayamadevi close to Athoor in Salem district. A resident of SV Colony in the town, Prabhakaran is working as a machine operator in a personal knitwear unit in Veerapandi.
The district unit of the BJP, which lodged a complaint in the case, alleged that the arrested accused was once a supporter of a well known political birthday party.
A senior police officer stated, “Prabhakaran has shared a half-naked morphed image of PM Modi on his Facebook web page and invited his FB buddies to comment on it by way of posting ‘Oru nalla name sollunga’ (Give a just right name for the image). The image perceived to have centered Modi in the Cauvery factor.”
Preliminary investigations published that though he didn't morph the image, he had only shared the image which he had were given thru some other assets. Still, it was once an offence, the officer added.
The action was once initiated after BJP Tirupur north unit president R Chinnasamy lodged a complaint. A case was once registered beneath segment 67 of the Information generation Act, 2000, and 505 (1) (b) and 153 (A) (1) (a) of IPC.
“Initially, the police may just not hint the account holder and sought the help of FB. However, after we conducted inquiry with one of the buddies in Prabhakaran’s FB web page, we zeroed in on him,” stated the police officer.
The police noticed that Prabhakaran has shared many pictures of a leader of a well known political birthday party on his FB web page. When he was once wondered about it, he denied any affiliation with the political birthday party. He was once remanded in judicial custody until April 18 and lodged on the Coimbatore central prison.
