A visual treat, fruit show attracts tourists to Sim’s Park in Coonoor

UDHAGAMANDALAM: The 60th edition of the preferred annual Fruit Show was once inaugurated at Sim’s Park in Coonoor on Saturday.
Inaugurating the show, Rajya Sabha MP KR Arjunan stated, “With the concept that of ‘One Fruit Tree - One Household’, health of our society may neatly be enhanced.”

Fruits of temperate, tropical and sub-tropical areas are on show. “The two-day show will probably be an actual treat to the tourists,” joint director in-charge of horticulture department Shiva Subramaniam Samraj stated.

With participation of several horticulture departments, the show has models made of various kind of end result. Fruits-covered fashion of an elephant and calf product of about one metric tonne of black and green grapes is the main attraction. An enormous ‘fruit kolam’ product of 500kg of various forms of end result may be pulling crowds. Over 50 forms of end result are on show.


Hundreds of holiday makers thronged the Sim’s Park as a result of the show. Over 35,000 tourists are expected to talk over with on Saturday and Sunday. “With the mega fashion of elephant and calf product of grapes and other models made with other sorts of end result, the show is a visible treat to the eyes,” stated M Sundar, a tourist from Chennai.


As many as 43 competition are attending the development and exhibiting other sorts of end result. Prizes for the winners will probably be announced and handed over on Sunday.


Hill end result like pear, peach, plums and oranges flourish in non-public estates in and round Coonoor. Backed via the horticulture department, a fruit research laboratory is functioning here.
