GUWAHATI: The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) and 28 different organisations, representing various ethnic and tribal communities, have introduced a sequence of protests in opposition to the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 that will make illegal migrants eligible for citizenship on the foundation of their faith.
The teams have also demanded an error-free National Register of Citizens (NRC).
After the conclusion of a meeting of the organizations here on Tuesday, AASU president Dipanka Kumar Nath said the organizations collectively made up our minds to watch an 11-hour hunger strike on May 29 demanding fulfilment of their twin calls for. He added that the Centre and the state executive should face huge resistance in the coming days if the bill isn't withdrawn.
