KANPUR: BJP MLA from Bhognipur in Kanpur Dehat, Vinod Katiyar, gained extortion threat of Rs 10 lakh on his WhatsApp number from an international phone number on Tuesday. The sender threatened to wipe out his circle of relatives in case the money was now not paid.
SP Kanpur Dehat Ratankant Pandey said, "An FIR has been lodged under various sections of IPC and IT Act at Bhognipur Kotwali. We arte looking into the matter."
Several different BJP leaders, together with MLAS, too gained such threats on Monday and Tuesday. The sender had threatened to do away with their families if the money is not paid within three days.
Katiyar stated in his criticism that he has gained six extortion messages on his WhatsApp number from an an nameless international number +1 (903) 329-4240 challenging a ransom of Rs 10 lakh. "At around 1.30 pm on Tuesday, the MLA had received nearly six messages wherein the sender demanded a ranson of Rs 10 lakh," said SHO Bhognipur Kotwali Devendra Singh, who is heading the investigation.
