BU seeks nod from UGC to run distance edu courses

Coimbatore: Bharathiar University has sought approval from the University Grants Commission (UGC) to supply distance learning programmes.
The UGC had in March known as for online applications from eligible higher instructional institutions for providing open and distance learning courses for the academic 12 months beginning July 2018.

Though the university had carried out closing 12 months, it was no longer accorded approval.


“When we carried out closing 12 months, it was no longer processed online. Several different faculties had confronted the same issue. So, we carried out for providing open and distance learning courses this 12 months and it has been permitted online,” mentioned registrar incharge of the university, B Vanitha.


In every other conversation, the UGC mentioned the levels acquired thru distance learning were on a par with the ones acquired thru a proper path. But it mentioned institutions cannot run distance learning courses in fields such as engineering, medication, nursing, pharmacy, structure and physiotherapy.


“We will convene a gathering and decide at the courses that can be introduced thru distance learning,” the registrar mentioned.
