NGT seeks views on public health plea

GURUGRAM:The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has despatched notices to all RWAs, in the hunt for their response to an utility that has accused more than a few stakeholders of a collective failure in segregating municipal and biomedical waste in the city — alaxity that poses a significant threat to public well being at large.
The panel has also slapped notices on the ministry of setting and woodland (MoEF), Central Pollution Control Board, Haryana State Pollution Control Board, MCG and Ecogreen Energy — a non-public firm accountable for waste control in the city — who've been made birthday celebration in the utility for allegedly no longer following the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016.

“Issue notices to the respondents, directing them to report their response within two weeks from the date of receipt of the notice,” states an order (a duplicate of which is with TOI) issued by the NGT remaining week while hearing the application filed by city resident Jitender Yadav.

In his petition, the applicant stated, “It may have far-reaching, irreversible affect because of the failure of the respondents and the government to implement the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016. Moreover, the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016, and the Biomedical Rules, 2016, are also no longer adopted.”

Advocate Akash Tyagi, who's representing Yadav in the topic, stated residents were equally accountable for degradation of the environment.

“They were failing to put off municipal cast waste in a right kind manner,” he added.

“RWAs have a duty to segregate waste,” he added. The applicant has named 14 RWAs in the plea. But there are over 1,000 registered RWAs in Gurgaon and a majority of them doesn’t observe the foundations. RS Rathee, RWA president of DLF Qutub Enclave, stated, “Right from waste turbines to waste managers, everyone has to take the responsibility.”

Nilesh Tondon, RWA president, Fresco, stated, “We were segregating at least 50 consistent with cent of the waste generated in our society for the previous 365 days. However, waste creditors combine the segregated waste while amassing.”
