CAIT seeks Prabhu's intervention in Flipkart-Walmart deal

NEW DELHI: Traders' frame CAIT these days stated it seeks Commerce & Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu's intervention within the proposed USD 12-billion Flipkart-Walmart deal, saying the alliance will inspire malpractices and predatory pricing in e-commerce.

In a letter to Prabhu, Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) stated the sale of Flipkart's Singapore retaining corporate should now not be allowed until the time the federal government frames an e-commerce policy.


The traders' frame argued that the federal government should make it mandatory that such offers can take place most effective when 75 according to cent of the dealers on an e-platform give their assent since they will be the worst victims.


"In order to ensure free and fair e-commerce business in the country, we suggest that a policy for e-commerce should be finalised at an early date in consultation with all stakeholders including the trading community," CAIT stated.


Moreover, it claimed that such a deal will inspire malpractices, loss funding and predatory pricing in e-commerce within the absence of any tracking mechanism and create an asymmetric stage enjoying box where offline and online traders will be unable to compete.
