Efforts on to secure release of 7 abducted Indians in Afghanistan

NEW DELHI: The government is in touch with Afghan authorities to protected the release of 7 Indian engineers who were kidnapped within the restive northern Baghlan province of the war-torn country last week, assets mentioned.

They mentioned serious efforts are directly to rescue the Indians.

The engineers were kidnapped by means of Taliban militants from close to the Cheshma-e-Sher house in Baghlan on May 6.


External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had a telephonic conversation together with her Afghan counterpart Salahuddin Rabbani last week all over which she had sought all possible lend a hand of Kabul in securing the release the Indians.


National Security Adviser Ajit Doval too had a telephonic conversation together with his Afghan counterpart Hanif Atmar at the factor.


The Indian engineers of KEC International, an RPG workforce company, were working on a project for construction of a power sub-station within the country.


India has been carrying out reconstruction activities within the war-torn country. It has already supplied at least $2 billion support to Afghanistan.
