Foresters turn saviours for sick wild elephant

Coimbatore: A team of wooded area division officials worked tirelessly to provide medical care to an unwell wild elephant that was once discovered close to Narasipuram on Monday. The 50-year-old animal, which regained energy due to the treatment, returned to the wooded area later.

Local citizens had discovered the elephant lying close to the outskirts of the wooded area on Sunday night. They in an instant informed the officials. The officials introduced an area veterinarian to care for the animal, district wooded area officer S Venkatesh mentioned. “The elephant was once supplied with food and fluids. We attempted to restore it all through the night. In the morning, wooded area division veterinarian Manoharan also reached the spot and persevered the treatment,” he told TOI.

Earthmovers had been dropped at where to clear timber in the space and to make sure that the elephant did not fall into deep pits there. By afternoon, the animal regained energy and stood up. It went in to the wooded area after a while.

“It will have to have suffered some stomach infection due to outdated age,” Venkatesh added.
