MANALI: Four scholars of regulation at Rohtak’s Maharishi Dayanand University allegedly published fake forex notes in Rs 2,000 denomination to buy 2kg of Malana charas in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district.
Two scholars — Vikrant, a resident of Haryana and Parvesh, who's from Delhi — have been arrested and the Himachal police introduced them to Mandi for interrogation on Monday. They were remanded to police custody for seven days on Tuesday.
However, two of their fellow scholars and a charas dealer are but to be arrested.
The four scholars allegedly paid Rs 5.6 lakh on April 14 to an individual in Malana village to buy 2kg charas. On April 26, Lal Singh, a resident of Bhad village in Gohar area of Mandi district tried to deposit Rs 1 lakh in Himachal Gramin Bank at Gohar.
The financial institution supervisor informed the police concerning the guy depositing fake forex and a raid used to be carried out at Lal Singh’s area where police recovered Rs 1.1lakh more in fake notes.

The police constituted a special investigation crew and arrested Deva from Malana. Deva instructed the SIT that a group of scholars from Haryana had paid him Rs 5.6 lakh for 2kg of charas. Investigation revealed that Deva’s friend, recognized as Kisha aka Bhoot has long gone underground with final Rs 3.5 lakh.
“Two of the students have been arrested when we showed their involvement in the case as supply of fake forex. The automobile utilized by them has additionally been impounded.
