BENGALURU: A 28-year-old pc science graduate from IIT Delhi, who carried out on-line training classes in mathematics, was arrested by way of Sampigehalli police, northeast division, for allegedly stealing high-end cameras and lenses from victims he lured through on-line portals.
Kartik Addagarla, who hails from Visakhapatnam but not too long ago lived a nomadic life, was tracked right down to a hotel in Gandhinagar, west Bengaluru. Police recovered four cameras and three lenses value Rs 12 lakh, which he allegedly stole from victims in Mumbai and Kolkata, from his room.
Preliminary investigation has printed that Addagarla is considering more than 25 instances of cheating. In most of the instances filed in main cities across the country, he is accused of marketing electric devices that he took on hire.
Police said they had been taken aback when they learnt in regards to the background of the accused. “His father is an assistant commander in the Navy and mother a bank supervisor in Andhra Pradesh,” said a police officer.
“After completing a pc science stage from IIT Delhi in 2012, Addagarla joined IIM Kolkata in 2013 to pursue an MBA. But he dropped out after he was stuck conning classmates of cash in on-line gambling games,” he added.
Since then, Addagarla has lived a nomadic life, going from city to city and cheating other folks, police said. “Posing as a qualified cameraman or businessman, he would method victims through on-line rental portals,” police said.
“He would give the address and landline number of the hotel he was staying in and fasten a gathering. In the guise of taking their cameras and other devices on hire, Addagarla would acquire the goods and disappear. He would then sell them on another on-line portal a couple of days later.” Police said the cost of some cameras bumped into lakhs of rupees.
City police got on Addagarla’s path after a sufferer from Sampigehalli registered a grievance. Addagarla was tracked for over two months and eventually nabbed when he arrived in the city on May 25.
Strangely, Addagarla never carried a bag or suitcase, police said. “He would purchase a brand new set of clothes, use them for one or two weeks, throw them away and purchase new ones once more,” police said including, “He is a teetotaller.”
