KSRTC, private bus operators incur losses owing to diesel price revision

MYSURU: Daily revision of diesel prices has had an adverse impact on the revenues of the state-run Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), and private bus operators. The Mysuru city department of KSRTC, which operates 430 routes day-to-day, reportedly incurs a lack of Rs 2 lakh every day owing to the fluctuations in the price of the gasoline. Private bus operators, some of whom function as many as 80 routes day-to-day, too have suffered losses as a result of the day-to-day hike in the price of diesel.
KSRTC’s urban department controller, Mysuru, MN Srinivas told STOI, “The price of diesel has larger via Rs eight in step with litre in the past six months. We function 456 buses, which want 25,000 litres of diesel every day. Owing to the hike in diesel prices, our expenses have shot up via Rs 2 lakh in step with day.”

On the question of the revision in price tag fare that could possibly offset the losses incurred via the company, Srinivas refused to remark. “These decisions will be taken via the central department,” he stated.

However, different officers in KSRTC believe that a 15 to 20% hike within the price tag fares could ward off a monetary disaster. “This problem isn't confined to a unmarried department. All the divisions are incurring huge losses owing to revision of diesel prices. Although the brand new executive would possibly not build up the gasoline price, this problem is likely to persist for a few more weeks,” a KSRTC reliable told STOI.

Understandably, commuters are staunchly hostile to proposals of hike in price tag fares. “When there was once a dip within the diesel prices a year ago, KSRTC didn't go the ease to passengers, claiming different monetary troubles. Since diesel prices are anticipated to come down in the following couple of weeks, the government will have to now not permit KSRTC to revise prices,” stated Sunanda, an ordinary commuter and resident of BHML Colony.

On the opposite hand, private bus operators too have needed to endure the brunt of hike in diesel prices. Their troubles had been compounded via the refusal of the shipping division and district administration to revise their price tag prices. “We can not build up the fare till the Regional Transport Office (RTO) clears the proposal. But the authorities are not able to imagine our calls for. Daily revision of diesel prices has transform a large headache for us,” stated Raju Gundlupet, a non-public bus operator.
