TRICHY: A 46-year-old mahout was once trampled to dying by means of an elephant at Samayapuram Mariamman temple in Trichy on Friday morning.
The temple elephant, Masini, beaten its mahout, Gajendran, throughout the temple around 11am when the devotees were transferring against the sanctum sanctorum for worship.
“The elephant was once delivered to the temple at 10.50am by means of the mahout and tied with a series. In subsequent 10 minutes, the elephant turned violent. The elephant pushed him on the floor and trampled him with its legs," Trichy superintendent of police, Zia Ul Haq, informed ToI.
As soon as the incident happened, the devotees ran helter-skelter to give protection to themselves. The police said that two ladies and a kid were injured within the rush. The temple staff closed the gates of the world to stop the most probably rampage by means of the elephant.
A video footage of the elephant trampling the mahout is also in movement. The video showed the elephant trampling Gajendran multiple times while any person raised an alarm.
The forest department officials have introduced a Kumki elephant to the temple to keep an eye on Masini. The elephant has still been saved throughout the temple.
The darshan has additionally been suspended by means of the temple administration. The police group of workers have averted people from getting into the temple.
The Samayapuram police have taken up the investigation.
