Man held for bid to extort Rs 5L from ex-Guj min

MUMBAI: An Andheri resident was arrested on Friday for allegedly seeking to extort Rs 5 lakh from a former BJP MLA and minister from Gujarat, Jayanti Kavadiya, by way of masquerading as a henchman of underworld don Ravi Pujari.


Sources in Gujarat police stated that the arrested accused, Ashishkumar Sharma (25), has labored as an assistant director for some C-grade motion pictures and had threatened a few artistes to cough up money. Sharma allegedly referred to as up Kavadiya and known himself as “Arjun” and stated he was from Pujari’s gang. Sharma advised him to pay up Rs 5 lakh, failing which he threatened to bump him and his circle of relatives off, the police stated. Kavadiya is a the former minister for panchayat and rural housing and development.


“The first call to Kavadiya was made on Wednesday. He also sent threatening textual content messages, following which the BJP leader’s private assistant approached us. On the root of his quantity, we traced him to Anand Nagar in Oshiwara. We laid a lure with the assistance of the anti-extortion mobile of Mumbai police and requested him to return and accumulate the money. As soon as he got here to the spot, we nabbed him,” stated sub-inspector R T Vyas of the crime department of Ahmedabad police.
