No booze in Mira Road area due to Palghar bypoll

MUMBAI: Fifty 8 bars and wine retail outlets in Mira Road will stay shut for the Palghar Lok Sabha constituency bypoll subsequent week.
The bypoll to be hung on May 28 has six meeting segments Dahanu, Vikramgad, Palghar, Boisar, Nalasopara and Vasai.

Mira Road comes below the Thane Lok Sabha constituency. However, 58 bars and wine retail outlets in Kashimira fall within a radius of five kms of the balloting spaces.

The state excise department has issued notices to 58 liquor institutions together with 38 beer bars,13 beer and wine retail outlets and two nation bars in Kashimira to close from 6 pm on May 26 until 6 pm on 28 May. These institutions will also be shut on May 31 on account of counting of votes.

The Kashimira Hotel Association (KHA) had on Friday moved the Bombay top court docket difficult the order.

A vacation bench comprising Justices Shahrukh Kathawala and Ajay Gadkari kept the hearing for June four.

The institutions will stay shut on the prescribed days.


KHA President Santosh Puthran had sought cancellation of the dry days in Kashimira on the floor that the spaces aren't going for polls.


Areas in Mira Road- Bhayander that don't fall throughout the five kms radius will stay open. Bars close to the Dahisar check naka will function whilst bars and resorts beyond the Versova creek bridge on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad nationwide freeway will move dry.


Terming the ban as unjustified the petitioner said that it'll affect the employees who paintings on daily wages foundation.


The notices were issued below the State Foreign Liquor (sale on cash sign in of gross sales) Rules, State Country Liquor Rules, State Toddy Trees(tapping) Rules.
