No foreign post office to scan cargo shipment

HYDERABAD: Despite the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) notification in 2016 to arrange a international sub-post workplace in three towns, including Hyderabad in Telangana and Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh to care for parcels and different postal subject matter, the postal department is sitting tight.

Due to non-availability of a international sub-post workplace in Hyderabad, all parcels coming from out of the country or being shipped out are sent both to Chennai or Mumbai for customs clearance. This regularly results in delay in supply. Apart from Hyderabad and Vijayawada, the CBEC notification of October 2016 really helpful a international sub post workplace at Leh in Jammu and Kashmir.

CBEC resources stated they're able to arrange the workplace for customs clearance, but are looking forward to the postal department to take the initiative. Currently, the customs in Hyderabad handles exports and imports at Shamshabad world airport, operates an air cargo and inland container depot in Sanathnagar.

Hyderabad Region Postal Services director, V Upender, who is conserving further price of town, informed TOI, “Initially, there was once a suggestion to arrange a international sub post workplace at Humayun Nagar. Later, the proposals were changed and an international trade centre was once planned. In principle, we were given the approval. However, it's still in the strategy planning stage.”

“In Vijayawada, we have asked the AP executive for putting in the international sub-post workplace in Amaravati. At least five acres of land has been sought,” he added. According to him, “Currently, all parcels and articles via registered post or Speed post pass during the Chennai and Mumbai gateways. They get customs clearances at those gateways. For putting in of acustoms cell, we want excellent space with screening spaces and surveillance cameras in addition to scanners to scan the contents of the parcels.”

Initially, in Vijayawada, the Buckingham post workplace was once zeroed in on for putting in a sub international post workplace. A non-public construction in Auto Nagar too was once counted as a possible location but neither materialised.

Sub-sections under Section 7 of the Customs Act, 1962, handle ports, airports, inland container depots with customs clearance for imports and exports.
