Passenger train hits excavator on rail track in Odisha

BHUBANESWAR: Ernakulam-Howrah Antodaya Express (train number 22878) on Wednesday hit an excavator heading in the right direction while passing a manned level crossing gate between Haridaspur and New Garhmadhupur in Jajpur district. No harm or casualty is reported thus far.
The incident came about at around 10.15 am while the Howrah-bound Express train was once crossing the extent crossing. The device could not cross the gate because of malfunction in engine.

The Pantograph of the train engine has damaged. Over head twine and the masts were damaged. A diesel engine has been sent to carry the train, said East Coast Railway (ECoR) assets.

Only down line has been briefly held up after the incident. UP and Middle Line are free for train movement, ECoR assets said.

An enquiry has been initiated at officials' level. Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Khurda Road, Braj Mohan Agarwal, has suspended gateman Jashobanta Swain for dereliction of duty (consistent with prima facie enquiry findings). He has also ordered initiation of disciplinary lawsuits.

"Responsibility of others will be fixed if any fault is found," said an authentic commentary.
