PM Modi to unveil Gandhi plaque in Singapore

SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unveil a plaque on the Clifford Pier in Singapore next week to commemorate the immersion of Mahatma Gandhi's ashes within the country's waters.

Modi will arrive here on May 31 on a three-day seek advice from.

In 1948, Gandhi's ashes have been sent to more than a few parts of India and the sector, together with Singapore.

Clifford Pier was once Singapore's sea front landmark under the colonial govt. It had since been renovated and currently serves as a cafe under the same namesake "The Clifford Pier", providing a collection of native, Asian and Western dishes under the operations of The Fullerton Bay Hotel.

The plaque to be unveiled on June 2 will underline the strongly rising ties between the two nations.


The Prime Minister may also have interaction with the native representatives after the plaque unveiling.


He will seek advice from 3 temples on South Bridge Road to highlight the outdated hyperlinks between India and Singapore. These temples have been constructed by way of early Indian settlers in Singapore as community projects over a century in the past and now regarded as nationwide monuments.


Modi may also seek advice from the Indian Heritage Centre in Little India to look the show off and inaugurate an enduring platform for Indian craftsmen to seek advice from Singapore from India for short intervals to show off their work.


Little India is a precinct of Indian-origin small companies.
