Truck driver, labourer held for killing migrant worker

LUDHIANA: The Dehlon police have arrested truck driver Ranjit Singh and labourer Jagdeep Singh close to Jaspal Bangar Road on Thursday for killing a 21-year-old migrant labourer, Ravi Kumar Mishra, with a sharp-edged weapon on Tuesday. Both the accused are drug addicts and started snatchings to shop for medicine. They have been booked in two extra snatching instances.

In the wee hours of May 22, two bike-borne males attacked Ravi in Kanganwal house of Sahnewal, when he and his brother Abhishek (23) — who paintings in the same manufacturing unit as labourers — had been returning home. The duo attempted to grasp their mobiles, but Ravi resisted, and virtually grabbed one in every of them, and then they started thrashing the duo. One of the accused then attacked Ravi on his head with a sharp-edged weapon, and escaped from the spot. In the early morning hours of the same day, Ravi had succumbed to his injuries.


Police commissioner Sukhchain Singh Gill mentioned the accused had been drug addicts, and after snatching one mobile the same day within the morning from someone else, they'd sold it for Rs 1,000 to shop for medicine. Later at night time, they'd also tried to grasp mobiles from the Mishra brothers, but Ravi fought back and foiled the snatching.


Assistant commissioner of police (ACP-South) Ramandeep Singh Bhullar mentioned the police had registered a case under sections 302 (homicide), 393 (attempt to commit theft), 323 (punishment for voluntarily inflicting hurt), and 34 (act accomplished via several individuals in furtherance of not unusual aim) of the IPC. The reputable added that each had been captured in a CCTV installed within the locality, which helped in tracing them.
