Wildlife census kickstarts in ATR

Tirupur: Employing 162 folks together with wooded area workforce and volunteers, the district wooded area department has shaped 42 teams for the animal census that started in Anamalai Tiger Reserve on Tuesday. It will proceed till May 28.

The survey shall be carried out in Udumalpet and Amaravathi wooded area ranges.


Students from various schools are also volunteering, a wooded area officer mentioned. “The participants will take a note of both direct and indirect information. They will register details of animals and also record indirect markings together with footprints and sounds of untamed animals. They will control different evidences like territory markings like scars on trees, cavities on earth or even urine smells,” he instructed TOI.


The survey will take place between 6am and 10am on a daily basis. The volunteers will take a measured method for the survey, for which, they are the usage of a cell app and GPS apparatus.


Apart from tigers, ATR has a number of carnivorous and herbivorous, together with elephants, leopard, noticed deer, dhole, moose, mongoose, boar, porcupine and bear. TNN
