Yard remodelling may affect Metro services for a month

KOLKATA: Metro trains are prone to run fairly late next month with the yard reworking work at Mahanayak Uttam Kumar station from Saturday. Services of KD25 — the Dum Dum-bound teach that begins from Tollygunge at 8.50 am daily — will remain suspended until the work is completed.

The scheduled date final touch is July 7. However, there is excellent news for commuters as smartly. After the work is completed, trains will run quicker as a vital crossover shall be shifted to any other location.

“There is a pace restriction of 20kmph on the Tollygunge station as there is a crossover at a sharp curve. This crossover shall be shifted to a point where the tracks run immediately. After work is completed, trains will be capable to go this point at 55kmph. When this occurs, trains will gain nearly one-anda-half minutes. The pace restriction was in place ever since products and services have been prolonged towards Kavi Subhash,” Metro Railway CPRO Indrani Banerjee said.

Another essential a part of the venture is insertion of a derailing transfer on the Y-siding past the Tollygunge station. Once this transfer is in place, rakes will also be moved simultaneously from the both the Up and Down instructions even if one is on the siding. This may even assist in lowering the time of reversing rakes and may support in bringing down frequency at a later date.

“The carshed will remain closed whilst the work is on. During this period, no rake will also be parked there. We may even shut down the 3rd platform at Mahanayak Uttam Kumar all through this period. All trains between the Netaji Bhavan and Rabindra Sarobar stations may even run with paper alerts until work is completed. All that is prone to motive trains to run a little late,” Banerjee added.
