Boat capsizes in Chilika, one dies, 7 missing

BHUBANESWAR: At least one particular person died and 7 went lacking when a rustic boat in which they were travelling capsized in Chilika lagoon on Saturday night. Onlookers rescued 8 others.

Superintendent of police (Khurda) Dipti Ranjan Ray stated the incident took place at 5.30pm when a gaggle of 16 other people were returning to Balugaon from Kalijai temple after celebrating Raja pageant there. The temple is positioned on an island within the lagoon.


“Locals rescued six persons and taken them to hospital. Two fire engines with 15 workforce have rushed to the spot to search for lacking persons. So a long way, frame of a five-year previous woman has been fished out,” stated the SP.


Nityanand Jena, fire officer, Balugon, stated the boat looked as if it would have lost balance in the strong winds whilst returning in opposition to Balugaon. “Rescue operation is on,” he stated.


Manoj Tripathy, in-charge of community health centre, Balugaon, known the useless woman as Shraddhanjali Das, local of Nayagarh district.


Shraddhanjali’s father Rabi Narayan Das (45) is admitted in Balugaon. Two others, Sashi Dei Das (50) and Swarnaprabha Das (25) were referred to Bhubaneswar as their situation is important, Tripathy stated.
