GANDHINAGAR:The Centre has proposed a Rs 10,000 crore mission to expand a 590km long inland waterway connecting Gujarat and Rajasthan in the course of the Jawai River, Luni River and Kori Creek in the Rann of Kutch.
“This mission will create another shipping route to the railways. Industrial corridors are also bobbing up in these spaces, so now we have made up our minds to do detailed evaluation of feasibility, environmental worry, go back on investment and many others,” stated Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union minister of state, water sources, after having a meeting with Gujarat leader minister Vijay Rupani on Wednesday.
Meghwal stated, “On May 23, Union water sources minister Nitin Gadkari gave in-principle approval to developing 111 inland waterways in the nation with inland waterway No. 48 supposed to glue Kori Creek space on the Arabian Sea in Kutch to Rajasthan.” The minister stated that the estimated mission cost is Rs 10,000 crore. “We are also studying this mission with a South Korean corporate,” he added.
He stated that WAPCOS Ltd, the central PSU in the past known as Water and Power Consultancy Services (India) Limited, has already prepared a pre-feasibility record and an in depth mission record is being made. The mission will include water desalination.
“The consent of each states is needed, and I met CM Vijay Rupani and the Gujarat leader secretary for this,” Meghwal stated. “We discussed the issue of the proximity of the waterway to the Pakistan border, the new notification from the ministry of home affairs, several environmental problems, and the importance of the nationwide waterways.”
Meghwal stated there will soon be a second assembly with the manager minister and other state functionaries concerning the mission.
