Fitness time in city on yoga day

COIMBATORE: Thousands of other folks, including scholars, enthusiastically participated within the 4th International Yoga Day functions held across the town on Thursday.

RAF body of workers, BSF jawans and scholars from Isha Vidhya, Kongu Matriculation Schools and Isha Samskriti performed Surya Namaskar and Shambhavi mudra at Isha Foundation. The volunteers of the foundation taught Upa yoga to the inmates of the Coimbatore Central Prison.

As many as 200 to 300 officers, who come to INS Agrani for the two-month training, are taught yoga, commanding officer Commodore Rajiv Choudhary said. “We have integrated yoga in our regular curriculum. Cadets say that their well being and the ability to stay even over 60 days in ships and resist storms have improved. We have also organised yoga training performed by way of Isha Foundation at our training box or even in ships for over 600 officers,” he advised TOI.

Deputy commandant of BSF Kamalesh Kumar said, “Including yoga in our regular training agenda has introduced an amazing change in our officers. They are extra non violent, solid and bodily strong to withstand the cruel eventualities and climatic prerequisites on the borders.”


Over thousand scholars of Satchidananda Jothi Nikethan International School and Kikani School performed yoga all through the early morning hours at their school premises.


NSS Volunteers from 30 affiliated schools numbering over 800 participated within the yoga day celebration with great zeal and exuberance. The scholars began assembling on the programme venue from 6.30am.


First 12 months UG scholars of the Tamil Nadu Agriculture University performed quite a lot of asanas on the occassion. Directors and heads of the dept have been provide.
