IMA rejects procedure rates under Modicare

NEW DELHI: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Sunday rejected the Centre’s recently announced packages in its ambitious National Health Protection Mission (NHPM) under which treatment for coronary bypass, knee replacements and stents amongst others would be provided at 15-20 consistent with cent cheaper rates than the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS).
Under the 205-page draft style tender report which used to be shared with states final month, knee and hip replacements were fixed at Rs nine,000 each, stenting at Rs 40,000, coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) at Rs 1.10 lakh, caesarian delivery at Rs nine,000, vertebral angioplasty with single stent at Rs 50,000 and hysterectomy for most cancers at Rs 50,000.

The IMA stated the package deal rates were ‘unacceptable’ however liked the federal government’s decision to empanel the hospitals from 10 beds onwards.


“These package deal rates are unacceptable as they are exposing the sufferers to threat in hospitals, as such low rates must be compromised with the standard of products and services,” Dr Vinay Aggarwal, chairman of the advisory committee of IMA, stated.
