Nagpur: Dressed in vibrant attires and shimmering ghungrus tied to their feet, guru Ruhi Masodkar and 8 of her disciples gave an impressive Kathak efficiency with enjoyable expressions and gentle movement of fingers and feet in best possible synchrony, at Banyan Hall of Chitnavis Centre on Saturday.
The programme, ‘Journey of Kathak’, was organized collectively by Chitnavis Centre and Nupur Kathak Kendra, founded by Masodkar, was aimed toward showcasing the power of this type of dance that integrated Ganesh Vandana, depiction of more than a few seasons and Madhurashtakam.
An completed dancer, Masodkar had her courses in Kathak from the likes of Birju Maharaj and Manisha Sathe. She began learning Kathak from the overdue Sadhana Nafde when she was six years previous. She is currently a member of International Dance Council of Unesco.
Masodkar’s solo Ganesh Vandana began on a prime note, adopted by efficiency in vilambit and madhya lay in Teen taal. This was adopted by a duet efficiency by Amruta Hadap and Sayee Mahajan in Teen taal. Masodkar, Hadap and Mahajan’s fascinating footwork left the audience in awe.
The programme traced the origin of Kathak, the way it evolved every so often and its significance in the fashionable world.
Talking to TOI, Masodkar said, “These days, fusion with western bureaucracy has been the in-thing on account of which persons are a bit reluctant to watch our classical dances. Nupur Kathak Kendra, began in 2009, is wedded to the reason for protecting our culture and present dances in their pure shape.”
Masodkar was felicitated all through the programme by Mohan Sarwate, director of Chitnavis Centre. Shweta Nagpure hosted the display.
