Lakhs marooned as monsoon hits North East

GUWAHATI/SILCHAR/AGARTALA/IMPHAL: Several parts of the northeast are within the grip of floods that experience followed incessant rain over many spaces.

Nearly 1.5 lakh other people have been suffering from the first wave of floods in Assam, while 40,000 have been hit through the deluge in Tripura and 3 other people have reportedly long past lacking. In Manipur, the state government declared a vacation on Wednesday for all officials and educational institutions after floods devastated the dual capital districts of Imphal West and Imphal East over the past 3 days.

A red alert has been issued after the Met department warned of heavy monsoon showers in Tripura and southern Assam over the following 48 hours.

Six districts of Assam - Golaghat, Karbi Anglong East, Karbi Anglong West, Biswanath, Karimganj and Hailakandi - have been flooded since monsoon hit the state early this month. More than 10,000 other people together with 3,941 children from flood-hit districts have taken safe haven in 71 relief camps.



Around 80,000 other people had been hit through flood.


Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) officials stated 1,127.72 hectare of croplands in six districts went beneath water. ASDM A officials stated Katakhal river in Hailakandi flowed above threat level on Wednesday. The State Disaster Response Force has evacuated 124 other people from Karimganj, some of the worst-affected districts, the place just about 80,000 other people had been hit.
