BENGALURU: A 78-year-old lady was smothered to death allegedly through her nephew at her place of abode in Bagalur, north Bengaluru, late Thursday evening.
Police nabbed the accused, Ganesh, 38, within 18 hours of Muniyamma’s homicide.
Bagalur police stated Ganesh, a resident of Hennur Cross and cab driving force, is the son of Muniyamma’s youngest sister. He allegedly killed his aunt to loot her gold chain and a pair of earrings.
“We have seized a gold chain and earrings from him. Ganesh was going through financial issues and went to Muniyamma to seek help. He murdered her to loot her valuables after she refused to give him money,” a police officer stated.
Police stated Muniyamma lived alone close to the village bus stand. She had two sisters and considered one of them, Rajamma, who stayed nearby, incessantly visited her at evening.
The homicide came to gentle round 11.30pm when Rajamma went to Muniyamma’s space, but discovered the door locked from inside. She knocked on the door and her nephew Ganesh opened it. He advised Rajamma that Muniyamma had died after falling on the floor. Rajamma rushed in to discovered blood stains on Muniyamma’s nose. By then, Ganesh had fled. She alerted police who rushed to the spot.
