Man pledges 20 cars taken for rent, held

Coimbatore: A man posed as an employee of a telecom corporate and hired 20 automobiles which he pledged and made fast money to the tune of Rs one crore. His con task ended on Monday when the police nabbed him as well as his companion in Coimbatore.
Police have also recovered 11 of the stolen automobiles. The con man was recognized as K Gnanaprasad, 30, a local of Usilampatti in Theni district, and his companion as G Purushothaman, 32, from Ramanathapuram within the town. They were arrested based on a criticism from M Karthik Raja, a resident of Karur.

Until a couple of months in the past, the accused, Gnanaprasad, had run a small grocery store in Karur and was suffering laborious to pay off his debts as he faced an enormous loss in his industry, mentioned a police officer.

The complainant, who is a taxi proprietor, took place to fulfill the accused, a couple of months in the past, when the accused was sketching a plot to earn cash, the professional mentioned.

Posing himself as a representative of a non-public telecom provider corporate, the accused had made the complainant imagine that the telecom corporate is renting four-wheelers and would pay a lump amount as hire, the professional added.

Fooled by means of his phrases, the victim had rented one in all his taxi to the accused, the professional mentioned. The accused, in flip, had pledged the car to a Coimbatore car pawn broker, Purushothaman, and got over Rs two lakh.

Citing that the accused had paid the hire amount of Rs 40,000 within a few days to the victim, the professional mentioned that the accused had lured the victim to counsel other such taxi house owners, as the telecom corporate needs taxis and was able to pay the hire upfront.

The victim had referred his fellow taxi house owners and the accused had controlled to get over 20 taxis. The professional mentioned that the accused, in flip, had pledged the entire taxis to the pawn broker and revamped Rs one crore.


The accused had controlled to pay the entire taxi house owners Rs 40,000 each and every for a few months and when they started to call for hire for the 3rd month, the accused had gone absconding from May, the professional added.


Based on the hints given by means of the accused whilst interacting, the victim had controlled to reach town crime branch police and a lodged a criticism. Based on his criticism, the officials have arrested the accused and recovered about 11 cars from them.


The officials have registered a first investigation document (FIR) and remanded the accused in judicial custody.
