Mumbai: Jewellery shop worker held for theft

MUMBAI: A jewelry store employee who had fled with valuable ornaments price Rs 57.60 lakh given to him through his employer for sharpening used to be arrested together with two others from West Bengal, a Mumbai Police professional mentioned Thursday.
The employee, known as Kartik Payra (23), had fled with the ornaments remaining week which have been handed to him through jeweller Kalyan Kar, police mentioned.

A case used to be registered at Pydhonie police station beneath segment 408 (Criminal breach of trust) of the IPC against Payra, an professional mentioned.

As Payra hailed from West Bengal, a police staff probing the case travelled to his local place, the professional mentioned, adding that they took a circle of relatives member of the accused in custody to find out his whereabouts.

On specific input, police first arrested one Zadeshwar Maiti (34) who turned out to be the alleged mastermind of the crime.


Subsequently, Payra and a 32-year-old man had been also arrested in reference to the crime, he mentioned.


"Maiti was the mastermind of the crime. He used to provide workers from West Bengal for polishing work in Mumbai," the professional added.


The accused trio had been produced earlier than court the day gone by and had been remanded in police custody till June four, he mentioned.


He mentioned police recovered ornaments price Rs 49.20 lakh from the accused trio.
