Noida Sector 18 market repairs still not over after 6 years, traders take a hit

NOIDA: Six years since the re-construction of Sector 18 marketplace started, it is still below construction with the surface dug up and big manholes present along the marketplace. Absence of protection measures have made the realm unsafe for those visiting the marketplace, thus resulting in loss of industry.

The repair and revamp work started in 2012 and geared toward cleaning up underground drainage, setting up overhead cables, adding to the fairway cover, setting up fountains, amongst other facilities. The 2nd phase of repair work started over two years in the past however has no longer been finished but. Presently, the marketplace’s centre is dug up, a public rest room has been arrange at a corner; a pavement being constructed has a couple of deep manholes that are mendacity exposed. There is not any signage claiming work in development.


Shopkeepers claim the sale has dropped via 15% over last 3 months as a result of the irregular construction work. “There’s a rest room out of doors my store, a pavement is dug up and there is not any ‘work in development’ signage for last seven days. My industry is suffering. I have sent a couple of lawsuits to the Noida Authority officials, however they've paid no heed to the location. The marketplace is collapsing as a result of sanitation problems. Safety for guests in addition to shopkeepers is at stake,” said Tina Kharbanda, an attire store owner.


“Basic protection norms must be adopted while executing any such massive scale undertaking. The areas that are dug up, will have to be coated after work is finished with correct signage. Water sprinkling will have to keep happening at the spots that are dug up. Commenting at the calls for of the marketplace house owners and the overall state of repair work, town Justice of the Peace Mahendra Singh said, “Safety and precaution for construction has to be adhered to via everyone. We will ask the Noida Authority to pay attention to the region. There will have to be ok signage. People will have to no longer be uncovered to hazards.”
