Odisha: Opposition wants audit of treasury jewellery

BHUBANESWAR: A day after chief minister Naveen Patnaik ordered a judicial probe into the lacking keys of the Jagannath Temple treasury, opposition events on Tuesday demanded that the locks of the Ratna Bhandar's inner chamber be damaged and a listing manufactured from the jewelry inside of.

Some, like veteran Biju Janata Dal (BJD) chief and former minister Damodar Rout, even hinted that ornaments could be lacking from the high-security chamber. Senior BJP chief Bijoy Mohapatra said, "I demand an inventory of the deities' ornaments. A high-level committee, comprising the Puri Shankaracharya and the Gajapati Maharaja among others, should oversee the inventory. CCTV cameras can be installed as well."


Senior Congress chief Ganeswar Behera said the general public used to be rising restless and rumours in regards to the theft of keys and ornaments were rising stronger with each passing day.
