DHARWAD: Fed up through regular obstruction to pig catching drives, HDMC officers have made up our minds to procure licence to kill stray pigs.
The pig catching power hit a street block on Wednesday as pig homeowners obstructed the operations in Dharwad. HDMC officers had launched the power at Ramnagar and Jambavant Nagar in ward no.17 on Wednesday morning to catch and shift pigs out of the city as a preventive measure following the outbreak of the Nipah virus in Kerala.

HDMC had hired pig catchers from others portions of the state and locals to catch the pigs. As news concerning the power spread, some folks claiming to be the homeowners of the pigs, obstructed the operation.

HDMC officers stated that a team of 40 to 45 folks thronged the operation web page and created a ruckus. A heated argument came about between the officers and the pig homeowners for over 30 minutes.

The pig homeowners stated they would not permit HDMC to catch the pigs. HDMC officers needed to halt the operation as the pig homeowners threatened to go on an indefinite strike at the side of their family members.
