BENGALURU: In a big victory for pet lovers, the Karnataka govt on Thursday withdrew an order that sought to regulate the selection of pet canines according to family and made their registration mandatory.
Stating that the February 28 notification has been withdrawn, additional advocate basic AS Ponnanna informed the Karnataka top courtroom that the subject will be re-examined and a contemporary draft notification will be prepared in line with suggestions by stakeholders. A department bench headed by Chief Justice Dinesh Maheshwari disposed of two petitions in this regard.

In the withdrawal notification, the federal government stated that after thebylawcameintoforce, several animallovers and associations had approached BBMP and expressed difficulties in implementation. The govt re-examined the problem and consideredit important tocallfor suggestions from stakeholders and to reconsider the bylaws in the gentle of inputs received.

According to them, Golden Retrievers, Beagles, German Shepherds and native Indian canines to find no mention in the checklist and it might seem authorities are selling certain breeds.
They expressed apprehension that neighbours may abuse powers given to veterinary officers required to discuss with homes for registration of pet canines. They claimed the ceiling on selection of canines in a family is unconstitutional.
