MUMBAI: For but any other day pre-monsoon showers accompanied with lightning and gusty winds lashed a number of portions of the city and its adjoining spaces like Thane and Navi Mumbai on Monday. This again was a relief for a number of Mumbaikars after the sizzling heat all through the day.
Around 7pm on Monday, pre monsoon showers with lightning started from portions of Navi Mumabi and inside of a few mins had reached portions of Mumbai like Mira Road, Borivali, Mulund, Dadar, Wadala, Parel and portions of Fort and Colaba. Weathermen stated that this was a normal pre monsoon phenomenon. "From June 6 onwards we are expecting heavy rains for parts of Konkan and by June 9-10 extremely heavy rains are expected in parts of North Konkan especially which includes Mumbai as well," stated Ajay Kumar scientist from IMD Mumbai.
The commonplace onset date for monsoons over Mumbai has been June 10, but because the past few years it has at all times been delayed. Saturday's first pre monsoon showers gave Mumbai average rains of 26.5 mm as recorded by means of the IMD Santa Cruz observatory even supposing the Colaba observatory didn't report much showers.
The temperatures then again continued to stay at the upper facet on Monday because the IMD Colaba observatory recorded maximum temperatures of 34.8 degree celcius whilst the IMD Santa Cruz observatory recorded maximum temperatures of 34.7 degree Celcius. The relative humidity recorded in the meantime by means of the IMD Colaba and Santacruz observatory was 74% and 61% respectively.
