Punjab: FIR over fake ECI notification on 'EVM scam'

LUDHIANA: Police lodged a case towards an unidentified particular person on Thursday for sending a faux notification of the Election Commission of India pertaining to the investigation in EVM rip-off.
The accused claiming to be the deputy leader electoral officer of the ECI despatched the notification to all SSPs and the commissioner of police to probe the EVM rip-off and send a file within 30 days.

After receiving the letter, which used to be despatched through post, the officers were on process. However, later the police learnt that no such notification used to be issued by way of the ECI.

Following this, a case has been registered in keeping with the grievance by way of Punjab's deputy electoral officer.

The subject came to the sunshine in May when the commissioner of police Sukhchain Singh Gill won a letter from the deputy electoral officer.

The police leader requested the DCP Ashwani Kapoor to appear into the subject.


The DCP marked an inquiry to (ADCP- III) Gurpreet Kaur Purewal, who after investigating the subject, advisable an FIR within the case.


A notification with the signature of deputy leader electoral officer, ECI with memo number ECI--VOEVM-63(lll)-53602-election fee of India, used to be circulated.


"All of you're informed by way of this letter that because of misuse of the EVM device, our country and the rustic's democracy are at risk. There is numerous dialogue about the rip-off of EVM device some of the folks of complete country, if there is a drawback within the EVM device then under the confidential police inquiry, you will have to investigate rip-off of the EVM device. If there is a possibility of rip-off from EVM device. You will have to send us efficient file of the EVM device rip-off within 30 days anyhow, on account of which voting on ballet paper will have to be carried out.


The ADCP Purewal said, "The notification used to be despatched to all other SSPs and CPs on the other hand throughout inquiry the officers discovered it to be fake. Further, after the commentary of deputy electoral officer, The Punjab Police have registered a case under sections 465 (forgery), 467 (forgery of precious security, will, and many others), 471 (the use of as authentic a forged document or digital file), 170 (Personating a public servant) and 182 (False data, with intent to cause public servant to make use of his lawful power to the injury of someone else) of IPC."
