Residents get ASI nod for building construction

CHENNAI: Lifting the eight-year-old freeze on building actions at Zamin Pallavaram, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has began issuing No Objection Certificates (NOC) for new trends around the safe ancient website within the locality. The custodian of centrally safe monuments stopped offering NOC since the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains (Amendment and Validation) Act, 2010, came into impact, which regulates construction task between 100 metre and 300 metres with the ASI's approval. However, ban on buildings inside of 100 metres from the notified website continues.

According to ASI resources, the applications seeking NOC for buildings within the regulated area protecting a spread between 100 metres and 300 between from the safe website are being processed. “The processing of these applications has began six months in the past, after the completion of a joint survey to mark the prohibited area and regulated area around the safe website in September last yr,” an ASI respectable informed TOI. No buildings are allowed throughout the 100 metre radius of the safe website.

Pallavaram has two hillocks located in an area of 57 acres falling in two survey numbers akin to 56 and 53. It has megalithic burial sites that date again to greater than 2300 years. Urbaanisation of wallet around the hillocks led to large inhabitation within the area. The ASI refused NOC for buildings citing that they may no longer mark the boundary of the safe website within the range of 300 metres. This led to large agitation a few of the locals. Following the directions of the Madras High Court, a joint survey was once performed to earmark the bounds in 2017.
