LUDHIANA: Jalandhar Bypass is one of the places within the city the place commuters face site visitors logjams continuously. Jalandhar Bypass is the main path towards Jalandhar, Amritsar, and Himachal Pradesh. But, because of an enormous collection of buses and vehicles the usage of the bypass, commuters steadily get caught in jam. Many a time, even an ambulance has to wait to get street cleared. The jams also lead to widespread injuries.
On Friday best, a car had hit a motorbike as they each were in a rush.
Vivek, a resident of Jalandhar, mentioned, "Day-to-day jam and accidents have become normal for us. When in jams, people start blowing loud horns, which again become an excuse for fight. No action has been taken by the officials so far. The main reason for these jams and accidents are lack of proper infrastructure on the bypass. Traffic lights and pedestrian crossing should be in place so that a proper system is at work."
Sanjeev, a resident of Ludhiana, who travels from Ludhiana to Phagwara day-to-day, mentioned, "I have to face these problems daily. Due to jam, I have to leave early, so that I can reach my destination on time."
Ashish, a city-based businessman, mentioned, "Overspeeding of vehicles is also a reason of accident here. Everyone is aware that it is the only route for two-wheelers, cars, buses and pedestrians alike. So, a traffic police should be present there to keep a check on the vehicles' speeds."
While speaking to TOI, Gurdev Singh, ACP ?(site visitors police) mentioned, "We make a special way for the buses only. Our ASI is always on duty on Jalandhar Bypass. Even today, I went for inspection and the situation is under control. If we see any bus driver not following the rule, we challan them. I have also organised time to time meetings with the bus drivers as well as their owners to ease the problems."
