Woman chained to pole for 10 years rescued

RAJKOT: A 60-year-old mentally in poor health woman who were saved chained to a pole outside a house since for a number of years in Mirzapar village close to Bhuj in Kutch used to be rescued on Thursday through the officers of the social justice department.

According to Bhuj social defence officer N S Chauhan, the lady used to be tied to the leg with an iron chain outside the hut through her family members. Her family members believed that the lady used to be below influence of some evil spirit because of which she used to be acting in the sort of approach, he added.


Chauhan and his workforce rushed to Mirzapar village once they were given information about the lady. “The woman is mentally in poor health since the age of 13. But since past 10 years she has been suffering from serious issues, in step with her family members and their neighbours. They further said that if left untied she would leave with out telling any one and behave weirdly,” he said and added that since the woman’s family members have been uneducated they didn't understand how to handle her.


“We have rescued the lady and despatched her to psychological clinic,” he added.


According to the neighbours, the lady used to be unmarried and dwelling with her brother’s family. “According to doctor, her psychological condition has deteriorated because of the way in which she used to be being handled. Her family members are small farm labourers. We have lately no longer filed police criticism against them as our focus is on treating the lady,” said Chauhan.
